From overgrown fields to oak, hickory and tulip poplar lots around Chattanooga, we match the work to your property. Chinese privet, bush honeysuckle, kudzu and woody regrowth call for the right equipment. Sloped ground, shallow rock, wetter valley areas and trees you want to keep shape the plan before equipment arrives.

Land Clearing Projects

Forestry Mulching in Soddy-Daisy, TN

Dense underbrush and young trees had made a customer's wooded area in Soddy-Daisy difficult to use. We brought in our compact track loader with a forestry mulching head and worked around the trees marked to stay. We mulched the unwanted brush and smaller trees, leaving the shredded material on the ground as mulch. The area became easier to walk and maintain, and the customer was extremely happy with the result.

What Equipment We Use

Vegetation & Trees We Handle in Chattanooga

Chattanooga properties range from valley fields to wooded slopes. We assess invasive thickets, vine growth and retained hardwoods while planning equipment access and the desired finish.

Dense small-leaved privet-style shrub growth along a woodland edge

Privet Thickets & Woody Shrubs

Chinese privet can form dense, small-leaved thickets along Chattanooga fence lines and woodland edges, hiding access and crowding other plants.

How we handle it: Suitable woody stems can be mulched; thicker growth or root removal needs a separate clearing scope. Privet may resprout, so follow-up maintenance matters.

Broad three-part kudzu-style leaves blanketing brush

Kudzu & Climbing Vines

Kudzu can blanket brush and climb trees around Chattanooga. Greenbrier and other vines can also tangle trails and fence rows.

How we handle it: We assess the supporting growth and hidden obstacles before cutting. Opening the vines does not eliminate established roots or guarantee permanent control.

Tall field grass with yellow goldenrod-style flower plumes

Tall Fescue, Goldenrod & Field Weeds

Tall grass, goldenrod and other old-field plants can fill unused Chattanooga acreage. Native wildflowers can be retained in selected areas while access routes are reopened.

How we handle it: Rotary cutting suits accessible field growth and light brush. We check ground conditions and obstacles, then agree on the cutting area and finish.

Young eastern-redcedar-style evergreens at a rocky field edge

Eastern Redcedar & Young Tree Regrowth

Eastern redcedar can establish along Chattanooga field margins and on suitable upland ground. Dense young trees can gradually reduce open space.

How we handle it: Suitable saplings may be mulched; larger stems and roots need separate assessment. Sensitive glade habitat and retained trees stay outside unapproved clearing.

Oak and hickory-style foliage in mixed hardwood woodland

Oaks, Hickories & Mature Trees

White oaks, hickories and other hardwoods help shape wooded Chattanooga properties. Mature crowns, heavy limbs and established root systems need individual planning.

How we handle it: Mark trees to keep before work. Approved removals may require controlled cutting, excavator handling and separately specified stump work; tree size alone does not establish permission.

Land Clearing Questions,
Clear Answers.

Do I need a permit for land clearing in Chattanooga?

It depends on the address and scope. A Chattanooga Land Disturbing Permit may apply at 1,000 square feet or more of disturbance, or near streams and wetlands. Hamilton County and nearby towns use their own processes. Tennessee construction stormwater coverage generally applies at one acre or more, including smaller pieces of a larger common plan. Routine cutting and development clearing need different checks.

What is the difference between bush hogging, mulching and clearing?

Our bush hogging cuts grass, weeds and light brush with stems up to about 1 inch. Our track-loader mulching process handles underbrush and suitable trees up to 7 inches, leaving mulch on-site. Land clearing addresses permit-approved larger trees, stump or root work and hauling, as included in your quote.

Will forestry mulching remove the roots and stumps?

A suitable mulching head can reduce exposed stumps, but mulching is not the same as extracting roots. If the area will become a driveway, barn or house pad, confirm the separate root-removal and ground-preparation requirements.

Is debris removal included?

Forestry mulch normally remains on the ground. For tree removal and land clearing, define whether material will be hauled away, processed on-site or left in agreed locations. Stump grinding and root extraction should also be listed separately.

How much does land clearing cost per acre?

Acreage alone does not establish the price. Tree size and density, access, wet ground, stump work, hauling and the desired finish all matter. The starting figures above are project allowances, not per-acre rates or fixed offers.

How long will my project take?

Light cutting may take hours, while clearing and haul-off can take several days. The case studies show individual scopes, not guaranteed production rates. Acreage, ground conditions, equipment access, weather and approvals affect the schedule.

Can you keep selected oak, hickory and pine trees?

Yes. We mark retained trees and plan access around their root areas before cutting. Equipment, debris piles and changes in grade can damage roots even when the trunk stays. Work affecting public trees or their critical root zones needs the applicable approval.

Can you clear steep ground or work near creeks?

We assess slope, soil strength, hidden rock and machine access before choosing the method. Stream banks, wetlands and drainage routes need particular care and may require separate approvals. Saturated ground or steep edges can change the work plan or schedule.

Does grading make the property ready to build?

Rough grading establishes an agreed shape; it does not certify a foundation pad. The building project may need engineered elevations, suitable fill, compaction testing, drainage approval and inspections. Agree on the handoff requirements with the next contractor.

Will mowing or mulching stop privet and kudzu from returning?

One pass does not guarantee permanent control. Cutting and shredding can leave living roots or crowns that produce new growth. We discuss repeat maintenance or a separate vegetation-management plan. Dense vines can also hide holes, debris and old fencing.

Is a timber-removal permit the same as clearing for a new homesite?

No. Chattanooga treats qualifying commercial timber harvests separately from pre-development clearing. A timber-removal permit is not a substitute for a land-disturbing permit and includes land-management conditions. Confirm the intended use before applying or cutting.
